You might not believe me when I tell you a place exists that not only serves breakfast 24/7 along with lunch and dinner entrees, and still manages to keep their food at an unbelievable quality (we're not talking IHOP, guys. This is the real deal). The Marietta Diner is an old favorite of people in my home town of Marietta, located on Cobb Parkway, not far from the Roswell rd. intersection. The place has been around for quite a long time, and is unique to the area, maintaining it's 50's style structure and decor. The menu makes an impression its self, with a full page of appetizers, pages of sandwiches, burgers and salads, and just when you thought they were going to quit: they added a greek, italian and a sea food section, just for kicks. The menu also includes a section of dinner entrees, if you're feeling like a special occasion.
The Marietta Diner, I came to find out, is owned by the same people who own Pasta Bella, another local favorite, and a few others in Marietta. I realized this as soon as I walked in and saw the gargantuan cake display, which just looking at may cause the heart to seize and the knees to weaken. The owners, apparently, are either Italian or Greek, or both, and always have an abundance or baklava and tiramisu available.
My dad and I ordered the fried fetta in lemon butter, aka heart attack on a plate. It was definatley rich, as should be expected, and was too much for 2 people to handle, but would be a nice starter for 4 or so. After sifting through the sea of wonderful options available, I decided on the Gyro Platter, as I often do. This comes with a good sized gyro, gyro sauce (dill sauce? lol), a greek salad on the side, and plenty of fries. My dad ordered a roast beef triple-stacked sandwich. The gyro was superb, the salad (olives, fetta, dressing, etc.) was wonderful and the fries were good.
On top of all this, the service was incredible, the managers even took an interest in making sure we had everything we needed. And we were there on an extremely crowded sunday afternoon, with a line stretching out past the front door.
My Gyro Platter cost around $9.50, dad's sandwich was $6.50, and drinks were $2.50. The appetizer was around &5.
I liked the place so much, I bought a hat. That should tell you a lot, I don't even ever wear hats. I think I might start today.
8 out of 10 stars!
